All Kinds of Bugs and Stuff

Insects can make for some very interesting photos. There are all kinds of varieties of insects from worms, butterflies, spiders, just to name a few.

Here is a growing collection of different insects that I have taken over time.

The Spider and the Fly

Ever wonder how a spider makes its web and how it comes out so perfectly? I was watching a small spider make one the other day. It was really quite fascinating.

After the outer circle has been made, the spider then drops from the top to the bottom, thus creating a connecting web. Then it returns to the center, walks in a circle making the inner ring.

It goes back to the outer ring and moves left or right and returns to center, repeating the small circular movement creating another inner ring. The spider won't go in order as to the next web to the outer ring, but instead go in a star formation, much like when you tighten the lug nuts on your cars tire.

After that, the spider has a perfectly formed and symetrical web. He sits in the middle and waits for it's first victim to show up. If at any time the web is disturbed, the spider moves back and forth in almost a violent action to try to capture it's victim into the web.

Here is what a web looks like after the spider has left and the maintenance is not kept up on it.
